Questions
How Much Weed Can You Buy at a Dispensary in NY?
In New York, adults 21 and older can buy up to 3 ounces of flower and up to 24 grams of concentrated cannabis (like vapes, edibles, and tinctures) per transaction. At Planet Nugg in Farmingdale, we enforce these state limits to keep you compliant.
New York Recreational Cannabis Purchase Limits
When you walk into a dispensary in New York, the state sets a clear cap on how much cannabis you can buy in a single transaction. The New York State Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) regulates these limits to keep purchases legal and safe.
| Product Type | Purchase Limit per Transaction | What Counts |
|---|---|---|
| Flower | 3 ounces (85 grams) | Buds, ground flower, pre-rolls |
| Concentrates | 24 grams | Vape cartridges, dabs, wax, oils |
| Edibles | Up to 24 grams of concentrate equivalent | Gummies, chocolates, drinks, baked goods |
| Tinctures & Topicals | Count toward concentrate limit | Liquids, balms, patches |
| Seeds | No specific limit | Not typically sold at retail |
These limits apply per transaction. If you want more, you can make another purchase at a different time, but you cannot exceed the limit in one visit.

Can You Buy Over the Limit? What to Expect
If you try to buy more than the legal limit at a dispensary, the transaction will be stopped. Here's what happens:
- System flags the amount – Our point-of-sale system automatically blocks purchases exceeding state limits.
- Budtender explains – A team member will let you know the limit and help you adjust your order.
- You can split purchases – You're allowed to make separate purchases on different days, but not in one visit.
- Legal consequences – Attempting to bypass limits could lead to fines or loss of privileges, though this is rare for customers.
We're here to keep you compliant, so just ask if you're unsure.

Frequently asked questions
Can I buy more than 3 ounces if I'm with friends?
No, the limit is per person per transaction. You cannot combine purchases to exceed the limit, even if you're buying for others.
Do edibles count toward the flower or concentrate limit?
Edibles count toward the concentrate limit, based on their THC content. A package of gummies with 100 mg THC would count as a portion of your 24 g concentrate allowance.
What if I want to buy both flower and concentrates?
You can buy both in one transaction, but the total must stay within each limit. For example, you could buy 2 oz of flower and 10 g of concentrate, as long as neither exceeds its cap.
Can I place multiple online orders to get more?
No, online orders are also subject to the same per-transaction limits. Attempting to split an order to bypass limits is not allowed.
